Twin Piston aircraft, like single engine piston aircraft, are ideally suited for owners needing to travel under 300nm without a fuel stop. However, the second engine tends to add payload and speed capability. Naturally, this comes with an increase in fuel cost and operating a twin piston aircraft requires additional training, since there is more for a pilot to manage with a second engine. Twin pistons were especially heavily produced between the 1950s and late 1970s, and many great examples of these aircraft are still available on the pre-owned market. However the market for in-production twin pistons has shrunk somewhat today with popular models currently being built by Beechcraft, Diamond and Piper.
