The Citation Sovereign+ costs between $12m for a 2013 model up to $19m for a 2021 edition, according to Aircraft Bluebook’s Autumn 2022 data. These values represent average retail prices for their respective model years. Individual Citation Sovereign+ jets could retail for above or below the average depending on their pedigree. Factors, such as completeness of the aircraft’s logbooks, maintenance condition, and proximity to the next big maintenance inspection or engine overhaul all play a part in an aircraft’s final negotiated sale price.
Within the Mid-Size Jet sector is a wide range of options for travellers. Specific to the Citation Sovereign+, the Hawker 900XP – which also comes under the Textron Aviation brand today – is a close competitor within the pre-owned market. The Hawker 900XP has a similar capacity for passengers, but it offers slightly less range, at 2,815nm.
The stand-out features for the Citation Sovereign+ are its winglets and powerful engines, designed to expand the range of airports it can access. As a result, the Sovereign+ has the ability to reach smaller runways and airports that may be surrounded by objects. This allows business jet travellers to access more popular destinations (like Aspen, Colorado) as well as cut back on their travel time as they can get closer to their desired destination.
Produced two years after the Citation Sovereign+, the Mid-Size Cessna Citation Latitude similarly seats nine passengers. Both jets utilize the same Pratt & Whitney PW306D engines and Garmin G5000 avionics, but the Sovereign+ has a slightly longer range compared to the Latitude (about 3,100nm versus 2,800nm, with both jets carrying four passengers).

By Gerrard Cowan - Editor, Aircraft Reviews
The original Citation Sovereign was a medium-range aircraft, offering approximately 2,900nm maximum range, and is a strong candidate for transcontinental flyers. Depending on configuration, it has a capacity for up to 12 passengers, though nine is more common.
Its successor, the Citation Sovereign+, incorporates range-enhancing winglets, which helps increase its reach to 3,200nm. As of this writing, 100 Citation Sovereign+ jets had been produced by Cessna, per JETNET data (September 2022). The Citation Sovereign+ has been in production since 2013.
What features does the Cessna Citation Sovereign+ offer?
Textron Aviation emphasises the Citation Sovereign+ jet’s short take-off capability and enhanced technology. The aircraft utilizes Pratt & Whitney PW306D engines, and is equipped with Garmin G5000 avionics.
What came before and after the Cessna Citation Sovereign+?
As established, the Citation Sovereign+ is an upgraded version of the older Citation Sovereign, which was first certified in 2004. The original Citation Sovereign was aimed at a similar market niche to the earlier Cessna Citation III/VI/VII Mid-Size Jet models.
Today, the Citation brand features more than one Mid-Size Jet – each targeted at slightly different markets within the category. Since the introduction of the Sovereign+, the Cessna Citation Latitude has been introduced to the market and is a very similar jet, but offers slightly less range.
