The Cessna Citation CJ2 Light Jet, introduced in 2000 and produced until 2006, brings a range of enhancements over the smaller, pre-existing Cessna Citation CJ1, helping to expand the appeal of the popular Cessna Citation Jet family and secure a leading position within its specific market segment.

The price of a Cessna Citation CJ2 ranges between $2.80m for a 2000 model aircraft, up to $3.40m for a 2006 model, per Aircraft Bluebook’s Autumn 2022 data. These values represent average prices. Individual aircraft values depend on many things, including its airframe and engine maintenance condition, and its proximity to the next major inspection or overhaul.
The Citation CJ2 was pitched at the same market as the Beechcraft Premier I, which seats a similar number of passengers. Compared to the FJ44-2C-powered CJ2’s 1,500nm range, however, the Premier I offers a range of about 1,340nm, and is powered by a pair of Williams FJ44-2A engines.
As mentioned, the Citation CJ2 offered a range of improvements over the slightly smaller Citation CJ1, which helped secure its successful position in the Light Jet market. Specifically, the CJ2 combines relatively long range with a roomy cabin for a Light Jet. Its fuselage is about 5ft longer than that of the CJ1, with a wingspan that is about 3ft greater. The boost to the fuselage means that more passengers can be seated comfortably. Also, the aircraft features Collins ProLine 21 avionics.
Compared to the Citation CJ2, the Citation CJ2+ offered some significant improvements, including an increase in Maximum Take-Off Weight, and a range of other operational enhancements, including a greater range, new engines and more.
Cessna Citation CJ2 Jet Overview
By Gerrard Cowan - Editor, Aircraft Reviews
The Citation CJ2 resembles the CJ1 in various ways, but offers an increase in cabin length and various performance improvements, courtesy of upgraded engines.
The FJ44-2C-powered Cessna CJ2 offers almost three feet of additional cabin length over the CJ1, allowing for a typical cabin configuration of six passengers. The CJ2 also offers more range over the smaller CJ models, facilitating trips of up to 1,585nm.
Capable of carrying up to six passengers, and well received by the market with 243 manufactured during a six-year production, according to JETNET, the vast majority of CJ2s are still in operation today.
The market performance of the Citation CJ2 is particularly notable, given the tough economic environment that was prevalent in the early years of this century, during which the CJ2 was produced.
