PW800-powered Dassault Falcon 6X private jet

Pratt & Whitney Canada, along with Dassault and Gulfstream, received boosts in the lead-up to NBAA-BACE this month through recent milestone achievements relating to the PW800 engine family. Catch up with the Pratt & Whitney Canada team in Orlando to find out more.

The PW812D received EASA certification, drawing the Dassault Falcon 6X it powers a step nearer to certification and entry into service, expected in mid-2023.

“We are proud that our PW812D engine has been certified by EASA, following the recent Transport Canada Type Certification,” Maria Della Posta, President, Pratt & Whitney Canada told AvBuyer. “These achievements reflect the successful advancement of our PW800 engine program and we look forward to the entry into service of the Falcon 6X.”

When it enters service, the Falcon 6X will become the third business jet powered by a PW800-series engine, with the Gulfstream PW814GA-powered G500 and PW815GA-powered G600 already in service since 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Meanwhile, the PW812GA, selected to power the new Gulfstream G400 Large Cabin business jet, received its Type Certificate from Transport Canada Civil Aviation. According to the Canadian engine OEM, the PW812GA showed exceptional performance during more than 3,400 hours of engine testing, including 260 hours of flight testing.

“We worked closely with Transport Canada to create an efficient and thorough certification process that successfully led us to this point,” Ms. Della Posta explained.

The PW812GA remains on track to enter service with the G400 in mid-2025. Across the PW800 family, more than 175,000 hours of testing and field experience have been achieved. The PW814GA and PW815GA engines have flown more than 144,000 hours since entering service.

“We are gratified by the steady progress the PW800 engine family has achieved, based on its ability to deliver a new level of performance and efficiency to the large cabin business aircraft class,” Della Posta added.

Modern, Efficient, Environmentally Responsible

P&WC upholds the PW800 as “the most modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible engine in its class”. Using the most sustainable and high-performance technologies, the engine offers double-digit improvements in fuel burn, emissions, maintenance intervals, and noise compared to engines powering older jets within the large cabin category.

“When we designed the PW800, we did so with all of the engine’s key stakeholders in mind – passengers, pilots and maintenance crews,” Edward Hoskin, Vice President of Engineering, explained.

“The PW800 has numerous inherent advantages and functionalities to ensure best-in-class availability and to create an exceptional engine response. It also sets the industry standard for maintenance, requiring 40% less scheduled maintenance and 20% fewer inspections than other engines in its class.”

The PW800 seeks to incorporate the latest generation of technologies in every aspect, from advanced design to innovative maintenance functionality.

For those aboard the aircraft, it provides an exceptional experience with a notably quiet and comfortable cabin. Indeed, the PW800 engine shares a common core with the Pratt & Whitney GTF commercial jet engine, which has flown more than 2.2 million hours since launch in 2016.

Also at NBAA-BACE with P&WC

Attendees at NBAA-BACE in Orlando will find PW800 and PT6-E Series engines on display at the Pratt & Whitney booth, along with interactive videos and other opportunities to learn more about these industry-changing powerplants. But there will be far more to see besides the powerplants themselves.

Pratt & Whitney Canada is heavily invested in a wide range of associated customer services and initiatives to drive the wider industry forward. Among the other areas for focus will be:

Sustainability

With the Business Aviation industry working towards ‘net zero’ emissions by 2050, get an update on P&WC’s efforts, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), its hybrid-electric demonstrator project, and its carbon offset service expansion.

Specifically, while P&WC engines are currently certified for 50% SAF blended with traditional Jet-A fuel, the company is working towards 100% SAF. For example, in June, the company announced the successful flight test of dual PW127M engines with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on a Braathen Regional Airlines’ ATR 72-600 aircraft.

The flight marked the first time Pratt & Whitney engines simultaneously flew on 100% SAF, while the ATR 72-600 aircraft became the first turboprop in the world to reach this exciting milestone. Discuss with P&WC team members the implications of such advancements for the GA and Business Aviation industries.

New Services Hub Demo

And keep your eyes peeled for the new P&WC Services Hub which will be launched at NBAA-BACE. Specific details will be announced at the show, and a dedicated section on the Pratt & Whitney booth will enable customers to learn and try it out.

Designed to make researching for the right maintenance service or solution for your engine and aircraft model much more intuitive and straightforward, be among the first to learn more in Orlando!

New Service Guarantee Program

For Daher TBM 960 owners, P&WC has launched a new Service Guarantee Program (SGP), a unique maintenance and service solution for the PT6E-66XT engine powering the aircraft. Discover from P&WC’s experts how the SGP for the PT6E-66XT engine sets a new standard in engine care and peace-of-mind ownership for TBM 960 owners.

“The SGP goes far beyond coverage of routine maintenance to include unscheduled events,” Nicholas Kanellias, Vice President, General Aviation, Pratt & Whitney Canada highlights. “It leverages data related to the engine’s operating performance and health to provide proactive, personalized support and enhanced service experience.”
