As an upgrade on the Learjet 45, the 45XR, from Bombardier Learjet offers higher takeoff weights, faster cruise speeds and faster time-to-climb rates due to the TFE731-20BR engines added to this model. Available payload with full fuel doubles in this jet (which is typically configured for 8 passengers).

The average Bombardier Learjet 45XR costs between $3.25m for a 2003 model and $5.10m for a 2012 edition, per Aircraft Bluebook’s Autumn 2022 data. Prices for individual aircraft serial numbers will vary, depending on a number of factors, including how well maintained they are, the number of hours on their airframes and engines, and more.
The Learjet 45XR can be compared with the Cessna Citation XLS and XLS+, which is itself an upgrade of an earlier aircraft – in this case the Citation Excel. The Citation XLS also has a maximum range close to 2,000nm, and is capable of carrying eight passengers.
The Learjet 45XR has been noted for its long-range and speed, even with a relatively high number of passengers. These attributes helped it carve out a strong position in intercity travel in North America, home to the majority of the Learjet 45XR fleet today.
The Bombardier Learjet 45XR brings a range of upgrades compared to the original Learjet 45 model. Perhaps the most significant difference is the increased Maximum Take-Off Weight, and the upgrade of the TFE731-20 engine to the TFE731-20BR. The Learjet 45XR can also fly about 100nm further with eight passengers than the Learjet 45.
Bombardier Learjet 45XR Jet Overview
By Gerrard Cowan - Editor, Aircraft Reviews
Introduced on the market in 2003, the Bombardier Learjet 45XR Mid-Size Jet was a significant upgrade on the original Learjet 45, as Bombardier sought to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive business jet sector.
The Canadian OEM built 208 Learjet 45XRs during nine years of production, per JETNET data, and only 4 have been retired as of August 2022.
The Learjet 45XR has carved out a significant chunk of the market over the past two decades, securing orders with the likes of Japan-based Global Wings and Dana Group in Nigeria. In offering all of the qualities of the original Learjet 45, while upgrading the platform to meet the demands of business and government operators of the 21st century, Bombardier hit a market sweet-spot with the Learjet 45XR.
What features does the Bombardier Learjet 45XR offer?
The Learjet 45XR is designed to seat eight passengers, as is the Learjet 45 – but the 45XR has a longer range, and is capable of reaching close to 2,000nm. It is equipped with the Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics system.

What came before and after the Bombardier Learjet 45XR?
The Learjet 45XR inherited an aircraft heritage stretching back to the 1960s, when the Learjet 23 made its first flight. More recently, the line was expanded through the release of the Learjet 40, a smaller variant of the clean-sheet Learjet 45 design.
Where the Bombardier Learjet 45XR is an upgraded version of the Learjet 45, Bombardier has also produced a corresponding improvement to the Learjet 40, in the shape of the Learjet 40XR.
Today, the Learjet 75 Liberty is seen as the modern successor to the Learjet 45XR, and will be Bombardier’s major focus for the line in the coming years, building on the successes of the 45XR model with improved engines, winglets, and Garmin G5000 avionics.
